Roosevelt Rough Riders Have a Homecoming That’s “Out of this World”

Pep rally and parade lead up to a victorious home game

The Roosevelt School District welcomed students, staff, alumni and community members to celebrate a homecoming that was “out of this world” on October 14.

“The Roosevelt School District community always shows so much enthusiasm and joy for homecoming. From our stellar class parade floats, exciting student performances and crowning homecoming court to closing the festivities with a victorious home game, everything about homecoming was spectacular and showed how much spirit we have here in Roosevelt,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Deborah Wortham.

Prior to homecoming weekend, all five schools in the district—including Centennial Avenue, Washington Rose and Ulysses Byas Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School and Roosevelt High School—held their own “Spirit Week” for students and faculty to show their school spirit. Each school also held a coronation ceremony, in which students were named to their school’s homecoming court.

The festivities led to pep rallies throughout the district on Friday before Saturday’s game at Roosevelt High School, where the Rough Riders defeated the Plainedge Red Devils with a score of 13-9.

The theme of this year’s homecoming was “Out of this World” and Dr. Wortham and the Board of Education marched as astronauts with a galaxy backdrop affixed to their float. School principals, students, faculty, and PTA members marched in the parade with their own handcrafted banners and floats decorated with stars, planets and other extraterrestrial themes and designs.
