Roosevelt School District to Celebrate School Board Recognition Week
District honors its Board of Education members and their accomplishments
The Roosevelt School District is excited to celebrate its Board of Education members and their achievements during School Board Recognition Week, designated as October 14 through 18 by the New York State School Boards Association.
The Roosevelt School District will be hosting special activities and events throughout the week to honor the Board of Education, which includes President Rose Gietschier, left, 1st Vice President Belinda Monroe, 2nd Vice President Charlena H. Croutch, Trustee Emily Moore, and Trustee Dr. Regina Williams.
Each year, the NYSSBA dedicates School Board Recognition week to raise awareness of the vital role that school board members play in ensuring the success of public schools, which form the foundation of our communities and democracy. Through the leadership of local school boards, our schools help develop educated citizens, capable of critical thinking and informed civil discourse.

“It takes strong schools to build a strong community, and these men and women devote countless hours to making sure our schools are helping every child learn at a higher level,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn K. Wightman as he expressed his gratitude for the dedication and hard work of Roosevelt’s school board members. “They make tough decisions every month and spend many hours studying educational issues and regulations to provide the accountability our community expects.”
Roosevelt’s Board of Education performs critical work to support student achievement. This includes developing a shared vision and setting strategic goals for the district; ensuring that the district’s strategies, resources, policies, and programs are aligned with its goals; assessing student achievement and providing accountability; promoting a healthy district culture where both staff and students can thrive, and evaluating the superintendent to ensure continuous improvement, among other responsibilities and projects.

“School board members give the citizens of Roosevelt a voice in education decision-making,” Dr. Wightman added. “While we make a special effort to show our appreciation during School Board Recognition Week, their contribution is a year-round commitment. Please join us in celebrating the tireless work of our Board of Education and recognizing their dedication to making Roosevelt a better place for students to learn and grow.”
