Roosevelt School District Feeds Families in Need this Thanksgiving

Students Support Local Thanksgiving Food Drives

Students throughout the Roosevelt School District championed food collection efforts to assist their neighbors in need this Thanksgiving. Led by the National Honor Society at Roosevelt High School, participating students supported the Youth Bureau of Smithtown Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family Food Drive. Students collected 200 donations of canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, yams, stuffing, gravy, juice, cake mix and other nonperishable food items.

“Our students took great pride in contributing to an important cause this Thanksgiving season,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Their efforts will help brighten the holiday season for local families in need.”

The Youth Bureau of Smithtown holds its Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family Food Drive each year to pair residents, schools and organizations with local families in need that they could “adopt” by ensuring they have a Thanksgiving meal.

Additionally, Centennial Avenue Elementary School students came together to collect over 200 canned goods and nonperishable foods to donate to the Tabernacle of Joy Church in Uniondale. The donations from Centennial students and staff will be able to supply over 50 local families with Thanksgiving food baskets this holiday season.
