Roosevelt School District Honors Hispanic Heritage Month

Roosevelt schools celebrates culture with spirit weeks, student performances and more

Schools throughout the Roosevelt School District have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with several spirited theme days, student performances and events to unite the community and honor one another’s cultures.

“We are so honored to celebrate such rich diversity here at Roosevelt and Hispanic Heritage Month serves as a time for our students and staff to take pride in their cultures and share their art, music, food and stories with each other,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “It was so inspiring to see the enthusiasm on display throughout our schools during Spirit Weeks, student performances and special themed nights.”

Students at Washington Rose Elementary School wore their cultures on their sleeves, literally and figuratively, on each day of Spirit Week from October 7th through October 11th. Kicking off Spirit Week was Decades Day, during which students dressed according to the vibrant styles and trends of the past. Spirit Week also included Jersey Day for students to showcase their favorite sports teams, Colors of the Flag Day for students to showcase their country’s flags and Cultural Attire Day for students to dress in traditional clothing from their backgrounds. The week concluded in a Hispanic Heritage Month performance, called “Pioneers of Change: Shaping Our Future Together,” which showcased students’ cultures and talents.
