Students Join International Academic Phenomenon to Learn Computer Programming

The Roosevelt School District recently joined the international phenomenon, Hour of Code, as part of a District-wide initiative to inspire students to pursue computer science. As part of the program, hundreds of students throughout the District learned about computer programming and coding.

Students learned programming basics through Khan Academy, a free web-based educational tool. With the help of Roosevelt School District instructors, students learned how to program in JavaScript, HTML, CSS and SQL to create digital drawings, webpages and databases.
Reports show fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago, and this program teaches students learn key skills to help them excel in the future.
