String of Robberies Hits Nassau Town Over the Weekend

BREAKING: The incidents are unconnected, but all happened in the same town over the span of a few days.

Freeport was hit by a string of unconnected robberies over the Christmas weekend.

The first incident occurred on Dec. 23 at 11 p.m. According to detectives, a 34-year-old woman was walking southbound in the parking lot of 72 Henry Street when she was approached by a man who placed a knife to the woman's side and demanded her property. The woman gave the robber her cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber then waved the knife at the woman, putting a hole in her sweater. No injuries were reported. The suspect fled on foot eastbound on Merrick Road.

The robber is described as a Hispanic man, about 5 feet, 3 inches tall, wearing all black clothes and a ski mask over his face.

The second robbery occurred on Dec. 24 at 12:01 a.m. According to detectives, a 77-year-old man was exiting his car in the driveway of his Archer Street home when he was approached by two men, one wearing a black mask. The robbers forcibly removed two wallets and an undisclosed amount of cash from the man, then fled westbound on Archer Street towards Brookside Avenue and were last seen entering a four-door sedan traveling on Brookside towards Merrick Road.

The final robbery was different from the others, and occurred on Dec. 26 at 3:23 p.m.

According to detectives, a man stole 15 packages of toothpaste from the Walgreens located at 89 Henry St. When an employee confronted the robber, he pulled a screwdriver and threatened them. The man then entered a grey Honda Odyssey and fled scene in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.

The robber was a black man, 50 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a grey beard with a black knit hat.
