Taxi Driver Shot in Back During Long Island Robbery

The 38-year-old was taken to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A 38-year-old taxi driver was shot in the back by a robber in Roosevelt on Monday night, according to Nassau Police.

The taxi driver was dispatched to pick up a fare on West Raymond Avenue at about 10:50 p.m.

When he arrived, the driver saw a man approach the cab who then opened the back driver's side door and fired a gunshot into the driver's back, police said.

The man opened the driver's door and demanded money while holding the gun. The driver complied and gave him cash, police said.

The robber then fled northbound through a backyard on West Raymond Avenue, police said. The driver was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening injury.

The robber is described as in his 20s, 5-foot-8 with a thin build, and he was wearing a red, black and white hooded shirt, police said.
