142 Counterfeit $100 Bills Seized Near Roosevelt Field: Police

EAST GARDEN CITY, NY — A woman was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after a traffic spot revealed she had more than a dozen counterfeit $100 bills.

Jamileth Galvez Hernandez, 18, of Queens, was pulled over on Ring Road in East Garden City with a defective stop bulb, police said.

Officers recognized the 2005 Honda Odyssey as it was used to flee the J.C. Penney in Roosevelt Field on Sunday, authorities said.

Police found her alone in the passenger side of the vehicle with the car running. She was told to step out of the vehicle, but refused and attempted to jump into the front seat, police said.

Hernandez flailed her arms, resisting verbal and physical commands by police. She was ultimately placed under arrest.

During an investigation, officers recovered 142 counterfeit $100 bills, as well as numerous receipts where large purchases were paid for in $100 cash dominations, police said.

She is charged with forgery of a vehicle identification number, petit larceny, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
