2 Men Arrested In Racehorse Doping Scheme: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 11.
- On March 4, officers investigated a report of a resident receiving an email from someone whom she thought was a friend asking her to buy gift cards totaling $1,350 and email back the numbers. The victim complied but later realized it was a scam.
- Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on Franklin Avenue and Main Street on March 4, one of the drivers, a 47-year-old woman, was charged with driving with a suspended license.
- Firefighters extinguished a small brush fire on Garden Street on March 4.
- An officer responded to Golf Club Lane for a fallen tree blocking the roadway on March 4.
- A 21-year-old man was charged on March 4 with driving on Franklin Avenue with a suspended license and a revoked registration.
- As a result of an investigation on Meadow Street and College Place on March 5, a 22-year-old man from Hempstead was arrested for driving with a suspended license due to a prior DWI, driving without a court ordered interlock device and uninsured operation.
- Officers investigated a report of someone attempting to open a fraudulent PayPal account using a resident’s personal information on March 5.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on Washington Avenue on March 6, a 40-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license, revoked registration and uninsured operation.
- At approximately 2 p.m. on March 7, officers investigated a report of an erratic driver on Rockaway Avenue that resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old woman from Virginia for DWI, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and open alcoholic beverage.
- A vehicle left the scene after striking and damaging an unoccupied vehicle in Parking Field 7N on March 7.
- A resident reported her credit card information was used without authorization for an out-of-state purchase on March 7.
- Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Cathedral Avenue crossing on March 7.
- Officers investigated a report of someone rummaging through a vehicle on Brook Street on March 8. There was no loss reported.
- A female jogger was bit by a dog on Kingsbury Road on March 8. The woman was treated at her home.
- On March 9, officers assisted state police and FBI investigators in the arrest of two men from Garden City, ages 47 and 42, for their alleged involvement in a racehorse doping scheme involving numerous co-defendants.
- A 24-year-old man was charged with driving on 2nd Street with two license suspensions and turning without signaling on March 9.
- A 25-year-old woman was charged with driving on 14th Street with four license suspensions, unregistered vehicle and uninsured operation on March 9.
- A 19-year-old man was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a suspended license, excessive speed and uninsured operation on March 9.
- A 24-year-old man was charged with numerous aggressive driving violations (unsafe passing, two counts of unsafe lane changes and two counts of improper signaling) on Stewart Avenue in the vicinity of New Hyde Park Road on March 9.
- Two construction tools were reported stolen from a work site on Whitehall Boulevard on March 10.
- A 26-year-old man was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a suspended license and excessive speed on March 10.
- As a result of a truck inspection checkpoint conducted on Clinton Road on March 10, 10 vehicles were inspected, of which six were placed out of service. Forty-seven tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations, including three hazardous material violations and an unsecured load.
