#98 – The A. T. Stewart Exchange
A special place at The Garden City Historical Society Museum.
One of the great things about living in Garden City is the proximity to the A. T. Stewart Exchange, where there are many unique things to buy.
This is a perfect place to find something just right for your home or for a gift. Items for sale are antiques; collectibles; estate, fine and costume jewelry; silver; furniture; crystal; china; designer bags and more.
“This was director Kris Harder’s creation and we opened in September of 2007. It’s such a success! New things that are happening at The Exchange include the fact that we now take charge cards for purchases and we are also open on Wednesdays,” said Jill Meyer, assistant director of the Exchange. Kris and Jill have 15 dedicated salespeople to volunteer on a regular basis.

A big event for the shop is the annual A.T. Stewart Exchange Flea Market every June. Hundreds of customers come for good buys from The Exchange and vendors. This year it will be held June 4; 2011 marks the flea market's fifth year.
The shop is located on the lower level of the Garden City Historical Society Museum at 109 Eleventh Street, just west of Franklin Avenue. Residents are welcome to bring in consignment items to sell with a 50 percent-50 percent arrangement. All profits go to the restoration of the museum. The shop is open five days a week: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. Parking is available behind the museum. Visit the Society’s website or call 516-746-8900 for more information.
