Adelphi Golf Goes Low, Captures Northeast-10 Championship

Endicott, N.Y. - The Adelphi University golf team rallied from four shots down on day two of the Northeast-10 Championship to capture the programs third team title in four years at the En Joie Golf Course in Endicott, New York. In addition, freshman Ryan Snouffer became the second straight Panther to garner Rookie and Golfer of The Year honors, courtesy of his first place finish.

The Panthers turned a four shot deficit into a 10 shot victory with a second day team score of 297, finishing the Northeast-10 Championship with a score of 602, four shots clear of second place UMass-Lowell (612). LeMoyne, Bentley and AIC rounded out the top five with scores of 617, 619 and 624.

Individually Adelphi placed three golfers among the top-seven, but no one in the field went lower then Snouffer, who posted a two under par score of 70 on day two, finishing two shots clear of the field with a one under 36 hole total of 143. For his efforts Snouffer was named Northeast-10 Golfer and Rookie of The Year, joining teammate Louis Kelly as the second Panther to achieve that status.

Kelly was Adelphi's second finisher, placing second overall after carding a one under score of 71 on Monday and posting a two day total of one over par 145, which was two shots in front of third and earned Kelly All-Northeast-10 honors. Aaron Burton also had a strong second day, putting a score of three over 75 on the board to finish with a 153, earning seventh place and joining Snouffer and Kelly on the All-Northeast-10 team.

Frank Amizicia and Jonathan Singer rounded out Adelphi's top-five as Amizicia posted a two day total of 161 (80-81) and Singer carded a 174 (87-87), placing them 33rd and 53rd respectively.

The team also took home one more piece of hardware on the day as head coach Jantzen Vargas was named Northeast-10 Coach of The Year for the second time in three years after guiding Adelphi to it's second crown since the beginning of his tenure.

The Panthers will return to action on Monday October 8 when they travel to Ellington, Connecticut to compete in the Connecticut Cup hosted by the University of Connecticut.
