• Hempstead Liquor Store Closes After Late-Night Fire: FD (patch.com) — Garden City firefighters were among several neighboring departments that assisted Hempstead crews in knocking down a late-night blaze at Sons Liquor Enterprises on Clinton Street. The fire, contained within about 30 minutes, caused enough damage to close the liquor store but resulted in no injuries, while county fire marshals and police investigators review the cause.
   

• Marilyn C. Camp (gcnews.com) — Longtime Garden City resident Marilyn C. Camp, an award-winning special education teacher and devoted St. Joseph's parishioner, has passed away. Visitation will be held September 3 at Fairchild Sons Funeral Home on Franklin Avenue, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's in Garden City on September 4. Donations in her memory are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
