Garden City Lawyer Named NCBA’s Pro Bono Attorney of the Month

Attorney Andrew Mollica of Garden City finds his pro bono work the most rewarding aspect of his career.

As an active participant in the Volunteer Lawyer Project, a program that provides free legal services for the county’s low-income community, Mollica volunteers in Landlord/Tenant Court in Hempstead on a regular basis to serve clients who are facing eviction and the loss of their housing.

In addition, through the Nassau County Bar Association Pro Bono Project, he represents homeowners facing foreclosure issues at court mandated settlement conferences at Nassau Supreme Court. For his dedication and service, Nassau County Bar Association President Susan Katz Richman has named Andrew Mollica Pro Bono Attorney of the Month for August.

Mollica asserts that the most fulfilling part about pro bono work is “giving voice to people who have no voice” His most gratifying case involved helping a woman who was charged excessive back rent.  He was ultimately successful in correcting the inflated charges for a very grateful client.

Mollica did not start his professional life as an attorney, but as a successful jockey agent in the thoroughbred racing industry. He eventually decided to become a lawyer, receiving his law degree from Hofstra Law School. Mollica not only maintains a general civil and criminal practice but also utilizes his background in thoroughbred racing by practicing Equine Law.  At the Bar Association, Mollica is active in the Young Lawyers Committee and the Criminal Law and Procedure Committee. His office is located in Garden City.
