U2charist- A Service for Justice and Peace

 The Garden City Community Church sponsored the “U2charist- A Service for Justice and Peace” Sunday evening, with words from Bono and the Edge and the Irish rock band, U2.  It was organized by Music Minister, Robert Ludwig.  The Band Director was James Ludwig with talented instrumentalists Kevin Burke on bass guitar, Evan Heinze on guitar, Matt O’Conor with drums and George Petersen doing vocals and keyboard.

 The Carol and Cantamus Choirs provided vocals, who included the wonderful singing voices of Hayley and Ron Giumenta, Katie Herbst, Katie Masters, McLaine Rich, Emma Volz and Jillian Yoo.  Young Lauren Palmer and Jessica Yoo sang back-up.

 The songs from the “Service for Justice and Peace” included the famous “Amazing Grace/Where the Streets Have No Name”, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, “Yahweh”, “I Will follow”, “When Love Comes to Town” and Sunday, Bloody Sunday.”

 Steve and Sam Short, with Nick Diglio were in charge of projection media.

 Robert Ludwig said, “The Offering from the U2charist went to support the international efforts funded through ‘One Great Hour of Sharing.’ For sixty years, since 1949, a number of Christian denominations in partnership with Church World Service have worked together to provide sources of clean water and food, education and healthcare, microcredit loans, emergency relief, advocacy and resettlement for refugees – all funded through offerings made to ‘One Great Hour of Sharing.’ “

 The musicians thank U2 and Universal Music Group for permission to perform their music.  Please join us again next year for the U2charist 2012 concert.

 Four ministers and one music minister serve the congregation of the Garden City Community Church: Rev. Jim Adelmann- Senior Minister, Rev. Lynn Sullivan- Associate Minister, Rev. Jane Huber- Director of Youth and Family Ministries, George Bashian- Licensed Minister and Robert Ludwig- Minister of Music.

 The Garden City Community Church is located at the corner of Stewart Avenue and Whitehall Boulevard.  It is an “Open & Affirming” congregation of the United Church of Christ (Protestant), so no matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey all are welcome.  On Sundays the GCCC has 8:30 am Communion in the Chapel and 10:30 am worship in the Sanctuary.  (Summer Sundays- earlier)  The Forum is held at 9:15am.  Church Sunday School is held during the regular service, with babysitting in the Crib Room for children under 2 years old, equipped with silent pagers for parents.
