Studio Strength Marks First Year Anniversary
A personal training studio with a mission to help clients "live strong."

Studio Strength is a personal training studio providing customized fitness programs tailored to meet each client’s individual goals.
Partners Juan Mayoral and Christine Cote take pride in their personalized approach that is focused on results and living strong. This month marks the studio’s first anniversary. Conveniently located on Franklin Avenue in Garden City, the studio is warm and inviting yet features the latest exercise equipment and tools.
Mayoral has over 20 years of personal training experience and the studio has always been a dream of his. When he decided the time was right, Cote, a former client, found the timing was perfect for her as well. It was Mayoral who encouraged Cote to pursue personal training certification. Cote, a former kindergarten teacher, had been a stay-at- home mother raising three children and decided to pursue certification.

“I started personal training after my second child and it really became a hobby,” shared Cote. “I became really interested in the field, I found myself looking things up and reading about fitness and health. I enjoy learning about exercise and how it impacts the body.”
Both Mayoral and Cote believe that there is so much misinformation out there about fitness training.

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that weight training makes you big,” Mayoral advised.
There has been a proliferation of fitness centers that focus on circuit training but Studio Strength’s primary focus is on free weight training and building a tailored program for each client. Training is available in 30 or 45 minute sessions. Each session provides a full body strength training workout with a concentration on the lower and upper body as well as the core.
Small group training sessions are also available. In addition to results, the benefits of weight training include building muscle strength, faster metabolism, improving health, weigh control, protecting against injuries and increasing bone density.
“We offer a personal experience,” said Cote. “You’re working with the owners and there’s no intimidation factor here. We’re not a room full of machines.”
An initial consultation is scheduled prior to training where clients are tested for fitness, weight and measurements are performed and goals are established. Progress charts are maintained and clients benefit from working with the same trainer who tracks their progress. Clients range from teenagers to men and women in their 60s and 70s. Prior training experience is not necessary and clients run the gamut from very experienced to beginners.
Client Lynn Santos has been working with Mayoral for seven years. She appreciates his expertise.
“Juan has an extraordinary depth of knowledge about fitness,” Santos said. “There isn’t anything that I’ve read or heard about that Juan isn’t aware of. The new space is great and Juan and Christine are both terrific trainers. Juan is also very careful, I’ve never experienced an injury with him which is quite common with trainers who push too hard or are inexperienced.”
When scouting locations for their studio, Mayoral and Cote were very interested in setting up roots in Garden City. Cote, a resident, and Mayoral, who has worked in the vicinity for years, felt it would be the perfect location for their business.
That convenience factor has not gone unnoticed.
“It’s a great place to work out,” said client Janet O’Leary. “Juan and Christine really relate to their clients. Juan stays true to the basics while still incorporating cutting edge concepts. The space offers exactly what I need. The location is perfect, there’s convenient parking and I feel very comfortable there.”
