Garden City branch among several waiving customer fees, opening for locals to recharge electronic devices.
Astoria Federal Savings has converted its open branches throughout Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens into charging centers for those still without power.
The bank said beginning Friday and into the foreseeable future it will allow blacked-out residents to charge cell phones, laptops, tablets and other devices.
The branches have business hours Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Astoria Federal Savings currently has 16 open locations in Nassau – East Meadow, Elmont, Garden City, Glen Cove, Great Neck, Jericho, Levittown, Lynbrook, Malverne, Massapequa, Plainview, Rockville Centre, Seaford, Franklin Square, Syosset and Wantagh – and 14 more in Suffolk – Babylon Village, Bay Shore, Coram, East Islip, Farmingville, Kings Park, Medford, Middle Island, North Patchogue, Ridge, Shirley, Southampton, Wading River and Westhampton.
The bank also said it will waive fees for their customers’ use of non-Astoria Federal ATMs, overdraft and insufficient funds and CD penalties through Monday.
Astoria Federal Savings will also donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross and match another $25,000 in donations made by the public at any of its branches to aid relief efforts. In addition, it will double-match every dollar donated by its employees for the drive.
