Bronx Man Convicted Of Stabbing Freeport Man To Death

Daniel Abrego Davila stabbed a man five times outside of a bar in 2016, authorities say.

A Bronx man was found guilty of murder today for stabbing a man to death outside of a Nassau bar two years ago.

Daniel Abrego Davila, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. After nearly a month of trial, the jury only needed two hours to convict him. He is due back in court for sentencing on Jan. 4 and faces up to life in prison.

“A 39-year-old man’s life was cut drastically short when he was brutally stabbed to death by this defendant,” said District Attorney Madeline Singas. “Today’s conviction ensures this defendant will be off the streets and behind bars for many years to come.”

Just after 1 a.m. on April 10, 2016, Rolando Cruz, a Freeport resident, was leaving the Nuevo Arco Iris bar on Fulton Avenue in Hempstead. As he was leaving, Davila and two of his friends were trying to get in to the bar, but the bouncer wouldn't let them. Cruz and Davila exchanged words, and Davila and his friends confronted Cruz.

Davila pulled out a knife and stabbed Cruz five times in the neck, chest, arm and back. Cruz was rushed to a hospital, but died at 1:35 a.m. that morning.
