Brooklyn Man Tried To Cash Forged Checks: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 30.
- The department investigated a report of unauthorized withdrawals from a resident’s bank and ATM accounts on Oct. 23.
- Upon investigation of fraudulent activity at People’s Bank on 7th Street on Oct. 23, a 19-year-old man from Brooklyn was arrested for two attempts to withdraw money using forged checks. He was charged with two counts of possession of a forged instrument, two counts of attempted larceny, unlawful possession of another person’s identification and identity theft.
- A vehicle was stopped by an officer for passing a stopped school bus on 1st Street near Cathedral Avenue on Oct. 24. Upon investigation, the driver, a 38-year-old woman, was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a stopped school bus.
- An unknown vehicle struck and damaged the bumper of another vehicle parked at the Nassau Boulevard railroad station on Oct. 24 and left the scene without stopping.
- On Oct. 24, officers arrested a 31-year-old man from Hempstead for the theft of merchandise from CVS on Oct. 20 and 24. He was charged with two counts of petit larceny.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Clinton Road on Oct. 24, a 41-year-old man was charged with driving while his license was suspended and excessive speed.
- Officers investigated a domestic incident on Oct. 25, resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Garden City for damaging property of another family member. He was charged with criminal mischief.
- Money was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on 1st Street on Oct. 25.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on Clinton Road on Oct. 25, a 27-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license and using a portable electronic device while driving.
- Firefighters and police officers responded to 7th Street for a report of an odor of natural gas on Oct. 26. Upon investigation, firefighters deemed the area safe.
- The police department and Adelphi University Public Safety participated in the DEA National Drug Take Back event on Oct. 26 by collecting unwanted, unused and expired medications. Eight large boxes of medication were collected at Garden City Police Headquarters and four large boxes of medications were collected at Adelphi University.
- As a result of heavy rains on Oct. 27, officers responded to multiple reports of flooding conditions and damaged utility lines.
- On Oct. 28, officers investigated an identity theft where someone gained access to a resident’s credit card account to make unauthorized purchases. Another resident’s personal information was used to purchase an iPhone.
- A 42-year-old man was charged with driving with four license suspensions and a signaling violation on Stewart Avenue and Jefferson Street on Oct. 28. The same day, another driver, a 21-year-old man, was charged with driving with two license suspensions and excessive speed on Clinton Road.
- A large van traveling west struck the Chestnut Bridge overpass on Oct. 28. No injuries were reported. The driver, a 21-year-old man from Roosevelt, was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs and uninsured operation.
- Two license plates were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in Field 7N on Oct. 28.
- A 41-year-old man was charged with driving with five driver license suspensions and unsafe lane usage on 11th Street on Oct. 29
