Burglar Fled From Officers To Hofstra Campus: Police

Police say the man was caught casing houses in the area, and fled to the school. He was caught and arrested there by police.

Nassau police arrested a Hempstead man after he allegedly broke into a home in Uniondale and then fled to Hofstra University.

According to police, a call came in for a man looking into windows of homes on Braxton Street in Uniondale around 11 a.m. Monday. When officers arrived, police say they saw Jahkeem Jiles, 27, of Ablemarie Street, on the side of a home. Jiles fled on foot, police say, but was caught and arrested a short time later on the Hofstra University campus.

Police say that an investigation showed that Jiles had entered a home on Braxton Street and burglarized it.

Jiles is charged with second-degree burglary. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
