Clavin Offers Convenient Payment Options

First Half 2019-2020 School Tax Bills Issued, Receiver Announces Important Dates

Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin has announced that the 2019-2020 School Tax bills have been issued and reminds taxpayers to make use of the convenient payment options available during the collection period. As the November 10th deadline for paying the first half School Taxes falls on a weekend, and the office is closed on Monday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day, payments received or postmarked by November 12, 2019 will be penalty-free.

“Property owners who prefer to pay in person can take advantage of extended office hours at our main office located in Hempstead, or pay from the comfort of their car at our drive-through payment window behind the main office,” said Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin. “Or, taxpayers can skip the drive and the lines altogether, and pay their bill online using a credit card or electronic check (e-Check), or by enrolling in our AutoPay feature.”

On November 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 12th the Hempstead Tax Office, located at 200 North Franklin Street in Hempstead, will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accept cash, check and money order payments. The ‘EZ-Pay Drive-Thru’ payment window, located behind the office (follow the signs on the corner of Bedell Street and North Franklin Street), will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and accept checks and money orders. (Please note: The Tax Office will be closed on November 5th and November 11th.)

“Our fully-staffed main office can assist taxpayers with account inquiries and all forms of payment, while the mobile tax office and satellite offices bring town government to local neighborhoods,” said Clavin. “This is especially convenient for residents who have limited time or ability to travel to the main tax office and desire to make their tax payments in person.”

Credit card and e-Check tax payments can be made online or by telephone. To pay online, visit hempstead.egovpayments.com/egov/apps/bill/pay.egov. To make a payment via telephone, call 1-833-378-1236 and follow the prompts using the telephone keypad. Payment by credit card will incur a 2.3% service fee, with a minimum charge of $1.50 for all credit card transactions. A flat fee of $0.90 will be charged for electronic check payments. VISA Personal Debit transactions will incur a flat rate fee of $3.95 per transaction. Hempstead Town receives no portion of these service fees which are charged by eGov Strategies, the company which processes the transaction.

Taxpayers may enroll in the town’s AutoPay property tax payment system, which allows subscribers to have their School and General tax payments made automatically using a stored payment method. Taxpayers can also have their tax bills delivered electronically via email by registering for e-Billing with the option to “go paperless.” To enroll, visit the Receiver of Taxes Payment Center hempstead.egovpayments.com/egov/apps/bill/pay.egov.

“From providing top-notch services and accommodating our constituents’ needs with various payment options to introducing cutting-edge billing and payment features which reduce production and mailing costs, I am committed to make government work for our taxpayers,” said Clavin.

Taxpayers should bring their entire tax bill when making payments in person. Tax stubs should not be detached from the bill. For assistance with a property tax bill, please contact the Office of Receiver of Taxes at (516) 538-1500.
