Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin continues to lead the way, initiating programs that make the tax-paying process less complicated for property owners in America’s largest township. As the May 10th deadline to pay the second half 2018/2019 School tax payments without penalty approaches, Clavin reminds taxpayers to take advantage of available convenient payment options.

“In addition to opening our drive-through payment window located behind the Hempstead Tax Office, and extending hours of operation at the Hempstead Office from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the last 10 business days of the collection period, our mobile and satellite offices will serve residents in communities that are distant from our main office,” said Clavin.

Through May 10th, extended hours of operation (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) will be in effect at the main tax office located at 200 North Franklin Street in Hempstead. When making payments in person, please bring the entire tax bill; do not detach payment stubs from the bill. In-person payments at the Tax Office may be made in cash, check, or money order. The ‘EZ-Pay Drive-Thru’ payment window behind the main tax office (follow the signs on the corner of North Franklin and Bedell Streets) will remain open to receive check and money order payments from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 10th.

Satellite offices at Rock Hall Museum (199 Broadway, Lawrence) and Levittown Hall (201 Levittown Parkway, Hicksville) will be open to receive check and money order payments from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through May 10th.

Credit card and electronic check (e-Check) tax payments can be made online or by telephone. Visit the Receiver of Taxes Payment Center at hempstead.egovpayments.com/egov/apps/bill/pay.egov
to pay your tax bill online. To pay by telephone, call 1-833-378-1236 and follow the prompts using the telephone keypad. Payment by credit card will incur a 2.3 % service fee, with a minimum charge of $1.50 for all credit card transactions. A flat fee of $0.90 will be charged for electronic check payments. VISA Personal Debit transactions will incur a flat rate fee of $3.95 per transaction. (Hempstead Town receives no portion of these service fees which are paid to eGov Strategies, the company which processes the transactions.)

Clavin recently launched the town’s Autopay property tax payment system, which allows subscribers to have their School and General tax payments made automatically using a stored payment method. To subscribe to AutoPay, visit the Receiver of Taxes Payment Center website, hempstead.egovpayments.com/egov/apps/bill/pay.egov. On the site, taxpayers can also register for e-Billing, a cutting-edge service that delivers tax bills to property owners electronically via email and allows subscribers to “go paperless.”

“As additional customers opt into our e-Billing and Autopay programs, the production and mailing costs associated with traditional tax billing and payment processing will be reduced,” said Clavin. “I am committed to finding ways to cut costs, while delivering excellent services to the hard-working taxpayers of Hempstead Town.”
