College Student Approached By Man In Car: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 4.
- Garden City detectives conducted an investigation of a burglary that occurred at Gross Jewelers in October 2019 where numerous pieces of jewelry were stolen. Detectives identified the burglar, and with assistance from Hempstead Police Department detectives, he was located in Hempstead on Feb. 26 and arrested for burglary and grand larceny. Upon further investigation with the Nassau County Police Department's Burglary Pattern Team and Hempstead detectives, it was determined the man was wanted for an armed robbery with a gun at a Hempstead Verizon Store in July 2019, and a Hempstead residential burglary in September 2019. He was charged with additional counts of robbery and burglary.
- A 27-year-old woman was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue at Brixton Road with a suspended license and excessive speed on Feb. 26.
- Upon investigation of a minor accident on Cherry Valley Avenue on Feb. 27, a 29-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license.
- Strong winds damaged a traffic light pole on Feb. 27, causing it to fall at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and 14th Street.
- Upon investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 36-year-old man from Hempstead on Feb. 28 for the possession of a cellphone reported stolen from a 7th Street restaurant.
- Surveillance video showed someone rummaging through vehicles parked on the property of a New Hyde Park Road repair shop on Feb. 28. There was no loss reported. However, the interior of one of the cars was found damaged.
- A 25-year-old driver was charged with driving on 7th Street with two license suspensions and an illegal U-turn on Feb. 28.
- A Police officer charged two drivers, a 46-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, for conducting unauthorized speed contests, reckless driving and excessive speed on Stewart Avenue and Kildare Road on Feb. 28.
- On Feb. 29, officers investigated a report of a female Adelphi University student walking on South Avenue at Whitehall Boulevard at approximately 1:30 p.m. when a white pick-up truck pulled up next to her. The male driver made two hand motions to her to get in the vehicle. The windows to the vehicle were closed, however the driver appeared to be saying, "get in." When the student walked away, the vehicle left the scene eastbound on South Avenue. The driver is described as a white man with dark hair, in his 30s, and wearing a white T-shirt. - An 18-year-old driver was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue at Sackville Road with a suspended license and excessive speed on Feb. 29.
- Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Clinton Road and Pine Street on Feb. 29, one driver was transported to Winthrop Hospital for a back injury and the other driver, an 18-year-old man, was charged with driving with a suspended license.
- Officers responded to Old Country Road on March 1 where a vehicle with two occupants struck a parked unoccupied vehicle. Upon investigation, the driver, a 26-year-old man from Washington, was arrested for DWI. There were no reported injuries.
- Officers investigated a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Stewart Avenue on March 1. Two occupants were transported to Winthrop Hospital for head and leg injuries. One of the drivers, a 31-year-old man, was charged with driving with a suspended license.
- A private carting truck was cited for operating on Old Country Road while 30,000 pounds overweight and allowing debris to spill onto the roadway on March 2.
- A resident reported multiple unauthorized fraudulent charges against her credit card account on March 2.
- Officers investigated a report of a white box truck leaving the scene after striking and damaging another vehicle on New Hyde Park Road on March 3.
- A 38-year-old driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road and Rainbow Place with four license suspensions and excessive speed on March 3.
