Driver With 23 License Suspensions Arrested: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Dec. 4.

  • Officers investigated a report of someone entering a vehicle parked on Cedar Place on Nov. 26. No loss reported at this time.
  • Upon investigation of a driver using a portable electronic device while driving on Franklin Avenue on Nov. 26, a 66-year-old man from Patchogue was charged with driving with 13 license suspensions.
  • While on patrol on Nov. 26, officers found a suspicious vehicle parked on 3rd Street at Rockaway Avenue. Upon investigation, it was determined the vehicle was wanted in connection to an armed robbery that occurred in Queens on Nov. 25.
  • Officers assisted the fire department, which responded to a Garden City residence and extinguished a small oven fire on Nov. 26.
  • A large holiday decoration was reported stolen from the front lawn of a Pell Terrace residence on Nov. 26.
  • Upon investigation of several reports of an erratic driver on Stewart Avenue on Nov. 27, officers located the vehicle in the vicinity of Clinch Avenue and subsequently arrested the driver, a 33-year-old man from Valley Stream, for felony DWI (prior DWI arrest) and unsafe lane usage.
  • Garden City detectives arrested a 54-year-old man from Brentwood on Nov. 27 for calling a Garden City business and threatening to shoot an employee. He was charged with aggravated harassment.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle on 7th Street for an illegal U-turn on Nov. 27. Upon investigation, the driver, a 24-year-old man from Queens, was arrested for felony aggravated unlicensed operation (23 license suspensions) and illegal U-turn.
  • Officers were assigned to security and traffic details for the annual Garden City Turkey Trot on Nov. 28. One runner suffered a leg injury and was transported by NYU Ambulance to Winthrop Hospital.
  • Officers responded to a Hilton Avenue home on Nov. 29 where a 70-year-old woman was found deceased. Upon investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office, it was determined the woman died from natural causes and was released to her family.
  • A vehicle was reported to be damaged while parked in Field 9E on Nov. 29. The damage consisted of large gouges and scratches.
  • Upon investigation of a theft of a pocketbook from the Garden City Library on Nov. 14th, Garden City Detectives arrested a 27-year-old man from Levittown for larceny on Nov. 30.
  • A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Stewart Avenue home on Nov. 30.
  • While conducting a traffic stop investigation on Stewart Avenue on Nov. 30, officers determined the driver, a 41-year-old man from Brooklyn, was in violation of a court order to stay away from a female passenger who was in the vehicle. The subject was arrested for criminal contempt, improper plates, unlicensed operation, unregistered vehicle and uninsured vehicle.
  • Officers responded to a traffic light outage on Washington Avenue at St. James Street South on Dec. 1.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle parked in Field 5 on Dec. 1.
  • Firefighters and officers responded to Jefferson Street for a power outage caused by a blown power line transformer on Dec. 2.
  • On Dec. 2, a 17-year-old homeless boy was arrested for the theft of a car and the larceny of a pocketbook from another car that occurred in Community Park on Sept. 21st. He was charged with grand larceny, criminal mischief, identity theft and petty larceny.
  • Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on Old Country Road on Dec. 2, officers arrested one of the drivers, a 35-year-old man from Freeport, for driving while ability impaired by drugs. There were no reported injuries.
  • Upon investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a custodian, a 54-year-old man from Hempstead, for the theft of electronic items from a backpack in Post Hall at Adelphi University on Dec. 3.
