Driver With 5 License Suspensions Arrested: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Dec. 23.
- The police department is investigating a phone scam where a person, claiming to be from PSEG, called a resident on Dec. 18 stating he was behind in his monthly payments and needed to purchase gift cards to pay the bill or the power to the residence would be turned off. The resident, realizing it was a scam, called the police.
- Officers investigated a report of someone damaging holiday lights on the property of a Wellington Road residence on Dec. 18.
- Due to icy road conditions caused by a water main break on Dec. 18, officers were assigned to safeguard the intersection of Stewart Avenue and Nassau Boulevard. The water department responded to the scene and fix the problem.
- Garden City detectives arrested an 18-year-old man from Queens on Dec. 19 for intercepting a resident’s $28 check placed in the mail in August and then rewriting and cashing the check for $4,800. He was charged with grand larceny.
- Firefighters and officers responded to a Franklin Avenue building on Dec. 19 for a report of an alarm. Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm was activated due to a broken water pipe. Repair crews responded to fix the problem.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on 11th Street on Dec. 19, a 29-year-old man from Levittown was charged with driving with two license suspensions and driving in the wrong lane of traffic.
- Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on Cathedral Avenue on Dec. 19, one of the drivers, a 26-year-old man from Massapequa, was charged with driving with a suspended registration and unregistered operation.
- Officers arrested a 39-year-old woman from Garden City for the theft of merchandise valued at $350 from Lord and Taylor.
- Officers assisted the fire department on Dec. 20, which responded to a small oven fire on Cambridge Avenue.
- A man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray pants was seen on a surveillance camera on the property of a Wydler Court home pulling the door handle of a vehicle parked in the driveway on Dec. 21.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue building on Dec. 21 for a smoke condition. Upon investigation, it was determined the condition was caused by a faulty cosmetic appliance.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a Tullamore Road home on Dec. 21 for a smoke condition due to burnt food on the stove.
- Officers charged a 23-year-old man from Queens with driving on Roxbury Road with five license suspensions and excessively tinted windows on Dec. 22.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a Kingsbury Road home on Dec. 22 for a natural gas leak. Upon investigation, the firefighters fixed the problem by locating an open valve and closing it.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Rockaway Avenue on Dec. 23, officers arrested a 37-year-old man from Westbury for DWI, passing a red traffic light, open alcohol container in vehicle, unlicensed operation, and unregistered operation.
- A man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray pants was seen on a surveillance camera on the property of a Locust Street residence pulling on a door handle of a vehicle parked in the driveway on Dec. 23.
- A Brompton Road resident was alerted via surveillance cameras of a man walking in her rear yard with a chair from her shed on Dec. 23. The man, wearing a light-colored vest, dark jeans, and a wool cap, then left the area. Officers canvassed the area but did not find him.
