Drunken Driver Crashes Into Garden City Home: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 18.

  • Garden City detectives arrested an 18-year-old woman on March 11 for cashing a forged check in the amount of $4,900. A resident placed the check in a Garden City mailbox in January; it was stolen, altered, and rewritten to a higher amount.
  • Officers responded to County Seat Drive on March 12 for a report of a vehicle stopped in the southbound lanes facing north. Upon their arrival, the driver was unconscious, the vehicle was running in the drive position, and the driver's foot was on the brake. The officers were able to carefully awaken the driver and place the vehicle in park. The driver, a 27-year-old woman from Ronkonkoma, was charged with DWI, driving on the wrong side of the road, and uninsured operation.
  • A check placed in a mailbox on Harrison Street was stolen, altered/rewritten to a higher amount, and cashed by an unknown person on March 12.
  • Officers investigated a report of an unknown vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging the mirror to a vehicle parked on 7th Street on March 13.
  • A 68-year-old man was charged with driving on Clinton Road at Chestnut Street with a suspended license and unsafe lane usage on March 13.
  • As a result of a traffic stop investigation for aggressive driving violations on 11th Street on March 14, Officers arrested a 41-year-old woman from Queens for DWI, driving on the wrong side of the road, and excessive speed.
  • Officers responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into a Sandy Court home on March 14. Upon investigation, it was determined a driver was traveling south on Herricks Road, lost control, crossed Rockaway Avenue, entered the back yard of the Sandy Court residence and crashed into an extension to the home. The residents of the house were not injured. The driver suffered a leg injury. The driver, a 31-year-old man from Queens, was arrested for DWI. The Fire Department and Building Department responded and assisted in safeguarding the scene.
  • A 58-year-old woman was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue with a suspended license, and failure to yield the right of way to another vehicle on March 14.
  • Garden City detectives arrested an 18-year-old woman from the Bronx on March 14 for cashing a forged/fraudulent check in a resident’s name for $4,700. She was charged with grand larceny. The check was apparently stolen by a worker at the resident’s home.
  • Garden City detectives arrested a 49-year-old woman from Garden City on March 14 for leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle parked in Parking Field PF 7N on March 7.
  • A 60-year-old woman accidentally drove onto the grounds of the Garden City Country Golf Club and became stuck in a sand trap on March 14. A tow truck was notified to remove the vehicle from the trap.
  • A 31-year-old man was charged with driving on Meadow Street with a suspended license, unregistered vehicle, uninsured operation, and not wearing a seatbelt on March 14.
  • Garden City detectives arrested a 30-year-old man from Brooklyn on March 15 for cashing and depositing a forged/fraudulent check in a resident’s name for $8,600. He was charged with grand larceny.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after it struck and damaged a vehicle parked in Parking Field 7S on March 16.
  • A 38-year-old man was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a suspended license and defective brake lights on March 16.
  • Officers responded to Community Park where a Fed-Ex truck struck overhead wires on March 16, knocking down two utility poles and damaging a light pole which resulted in a power outage in the park and surrounding area. The Fire Department responded and assisted in safeguarding the area.
  • Officers and firefighters responded to Sandy Court on March 17 and rescued a dog who was stuck in a fence and suffered facial injuries. The owner took the dog to seek medical attention.
