Enriching Learning with Retired Teachers

Adrienne Werring, a retired Garden City elementary music teacher, shared the history of famous lullaby.

Before the school year ended, Adrienne Werring, a retired Garden City elementary music teacher, shared the history of famous lullaby with Mrs. Donna Welch’s class at Homestead School.

Ms. Werring’s visit was part of an initiative to give back to the school community and to share an appreciation of music with the littlest ones in the school district.

Ms. Werring read a picture book about Johannes Brahms’ life, used technology to have children listen to Op.49, No.4 (published 1868), and shared portraits of the famous composer during her visit.

Many children recognized the lullaby's melody and learned it is one of the most famous and recognizable in the world, used by countless parents to sing their babies to sleep (“Go to sleep, la la la ...”).
