Adelphi University Presents THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT from October 5 through 10, 2010
Adelphi University is proud to present Jean Giraudoux's rarely seen French classic THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT at its Performing Arts Center (AU PAC), Olmsted Theatre, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The production, starring the University's theatre majors and under the direction of Associate Professor Brian Rose, opens its seven performance run on Tuesday, October 5 and closes on Sunday, October 10, 2010 (performance times vary). This production promises to be one of the highlights of the season.
THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT is a delightful and timely comic fable about a community of vagabonds at the Café Chez Francis in Paris, struggling to restore beauty and love to a world which seems to be taken over by greedy, vicious corporations. After premiering in Paris in 1945, the play was brought to Broadway, where it ran for more than 350 performances from 1948 through 1950. In the late 1960s, it returned to Broadway in the musical adaptation DEAR WORLD, starring Angela Lansbury, and was brought to the screen starring Katharine Hepburn as Countess Aurelia, THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT.
