Adelphi University to Host the Dynamic Music and Dance Performance, “Taikoza: Live!,” on October 9, 2010
Adelphi University is pleased to host the thundering drum group, Taikoza. The group will perform two shows on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AU PAC), 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The day will also feature a Taikoza: Live! Children's Workshop at 1:00 p.m., in which a limited number of children will have the opportunity to work with the Taikoza Company and play the drums themselves.
The taiko is a large, barrel-like drum that can fill the air with the sounds of rolling thunder. Drawing from Japan's rich tradition of music and performance, Taikoza incorporates two kinds of bamboo flutes called the shakuhachi and the fue, a stringed instrument called the koto, and the ancestral drums, to create a new sound from these traditional instruments.
