Georgia O'Keeffe: Flower Power" Free Library Lecture

Friends of the Garden city Public Library will present a free art slide lecture: “Georgia O’Keeffe: Flower Power” with Art History Scholar Louise Cella Caruso at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St., Garden City, NY. Learn as you explore American artist and master of painting, Georgia O’Keeffe. For directions phone: (516) 742-8405. Seating and parking is limited and on a first-come basis. No tickets are required.

The New York Times described her as “the undisputed doyenne of American painting” in 1986 when she died at the age of 98. Georgia O’Keeffe’s first memories were of light sitting on a patchwork quilt and the feeling of warm, soft ridges of earth made by the wheels of buggies – at an early age she had a sense of color & shape. Generations have been stunned, awed and confused by her work asking the same questions and having the the same incorrect conclusions. This enlightening program will focus on the fearless, modest woman and her own highly refined, slightly removed art.

Louise Cella Caruso has made numerous presentations throughout the tri-state area. Her background combines, bio-nutrition, certification in art & antique appraising, and a degree in communication. She has continued research at museums in the United States and Europe such as: The Metropolitan & Philadelphia Museums of Art, The Prado, Louvre, Uffizi, and more.
