Gilbert & Sulivan's The Sorcerer

The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island brings its talented cast and orchestra to Garden City! The Sorcerer is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's earliest full-length operas, produced two years after the resounding success of their one-act opera/cantata Trial By Jury in 1875. The charming story revolves around the betrothal of Alexis and Aline. They are so enjoying their being in love that they decide everyone should feel the way they do. They hire a sorcerer, who concocts a potion which compels all who drink it to fall in love with the first person they see. The results, of course, are chaotic, as no one falls in love with the right partner. The score includes such G&S classics as "My Name is John Wellington Wells," "Time Was When Love and I Were Well Acquainted" and "Now to the Banquet We Press." This is the first Long Island production of this show in nearly two decades.
