The Independent Art Society (IAS) is an independent, non-profit organization established in 1951, dedicated to the encouragement of artistic endeavor on Long Island. A source of art information, it has been an opportunity for amateurs and professionals alike to attend demonstrations, and exhibit their work, meanwhile sharing common interests with one another. Over the years, many strong friendships have evolved and a sense of camaraderie continues to exist.
IAS meets monthly from 7:00–9:00 pm on Mondays at the Plainview/Old Bethpage Library except during summer. Several juried exhibitions are scheduled throughout the year with critiques and award presentations at the reception. During the past two years IAS has been granted access, by the Town of Oyster Bay, to pursue plein air painting during the spring & summer months at "The Farm" located in Oyster Bay Cove. Dues entitles members to participate in IAS shows, demonstrations, critiques, socials, workshops & special events. Membership is open to anyone 18 & over subscribing to the IAS purpose and contributing to its support. photo of painting by Jack S. Grimando
