Library Friends Sponsor Free Performance: “Dearest Friend” (A Conversation with Abigail Adams)

Long Island Storyteller Janet Emily Demarest will perform  “Dearest Friend” (A Conversation with Abigail Adams) at the Garden City Library.

Learn about the uncommon relationship enjoyed by our most misunderstood founding father, John Adams, and his devoted, intelligent wife, Abigail. Ms. Demarest will bring to life a sense of the times in which our founding fathers - and mothers - lived, the roles they played and the terrors they experienced, not only in the struggle for freedom but also in their own everyday lives.

Ms. Demarest, a college professor & an accomplished performer, spent the better part of 2 years researching the couple's relationship for her play, "Dearest Abigail," which was based in the voluminous correspondence between John & Abigail Adams. In bringing this colorful performance, she provides solid historical background & a sense of the sociology of the times. Her natural talent as the storyteller-in-residence at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, coupled with her unique sense of drama, adds to the understanding of the total picture of America in 1776. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
