Learn the history of famed "Printmakers to the American Public," Nathaniel Currier and James Merritt Ives who labored during much of the 19th century to produce over 7,000 reasonably priced color lithographs for the general public. These lithographs left a cherished pictorial legacy of America's growth from an agricultural society to an industrial one. View some of the most loved and sought-after prints - those that depicted old-fashioned winters from sleighing in Central Park to chopping and stacking firewood on Connecticut farms. Discover how to distinguish between an original print and modern reproduction.

Mickey Maxwell Cohen is retired from his role as Chairman of the Department of Science & Oceanography at Beach Channel High School in Rockaway Park. He has given natural history-related courses for 18 years at the New School for Social Research in NYC. Mr. Cohen has been a longtime Currier & Ives collector as well as the series author of "The Story Behind the Picture" for the New York Chronicle.
