Nassau Community College Presents Beds, Burials & Islam: Manifestations of Faith on China's Silk Road
Nassau Community College Center for Arts and Humanities is proud to present Beds, Burials & Islam: Manifestations of Faith on China's Silk Road, which will take place on Tuesday, March 13 at 4:00 p.m. in the College Center Building. The event will feature a presentation by Lisa Ross, a New York City-based artist.
During her presentation, Ross will share photographs and videos she made over a ten-year period in northwest China. She will talk about "the border" as it relates to the preservation of spiritual practice -- such as modern day shrine visitation -- along the ancient Silk Road. Ross will also examine the invisible barrier between wakefulness, dreams and the spirit world.
Ross received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College and her MFA from Columbia University. She has exhibited and lectured in the U.S., Europe and North Africa. An exhibition of her work just opened at the University of California at Berkley's Center for Buddhist Studies. In 2013, Ross will have a show at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City. A book of her photographs will be published by Random House next year as well. Ross's work has received favorable reviews from "The New York Times," the "New Yorker" and "New York" magazine.
