Organist Andrew H. Yeargin maintains an extensive career as a recitalist, accompanist, conductor and church musician. A native of Raleigh, NC, Andrew is presently a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ and musicology at the Manhattan School of Music, where he also received the Master of Music degree in organ under the tutelage of McNeil Robinson. Andrew completed undergraduate studies at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, where he studied organ with Matthew Lewis and Diane Meredith Belcher, and conducting with Sun Min Lee and James Jordan.
As an organist, he has performed throughout the eastern United States, as well as in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and the Bahamas. He has been identified as demonstrating "a level of accomplishment that augurs well for the future of organ recitals in this country" (The American Organist, October 2009) and "gives hope that there are people out there to keep the flame alight in the fields of church music and organ performance" (The Bombarde, August 2007). He has frequently appeared on the noonday recital series at Duke University Chapel and has recorded for the radio program Pipedreams Live! on American Public Media. In 2009, Andrew was the recipient of a grant from the Bedient Organ Company and the Florence Gould Foundation to study and perform on historic instruments of the 18th and 19th centuries in France. Andrew has participated in many competitions of international renown, most notably the American Guild of Organists Regional Competition sponsored by Quimby Pipe Organs, Inc., in which he was awarded first prize in 2007 and was a featured artist at two summer conventions of the Guild.
An active church musician, Andrew is currently organist and choirmaster at Christ Church (Episcopal) in Manhasset, NY, where he oversees two choirs of professional and volunteer adults as well as girl and boy choristers. He also serves under McNeil Robinson as cantor and assisting organist at the Church of the Holy Trinity (Roman Catholic) on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Previously, Andrew completed a tenure as organ scholar at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York, and was a recent finalist for the coveted organ scholar position at York Minster in York, England. Andrew also served on the teaching faculty of the United Choir School in New Haven, CT and has been a past instructor in the chapel music departments at the Princeton Theological Seminary and Princeton University. As an accompanist he frequently collaborates with such organizations as the St. George's Choral Society (NYC), the Lakeland Chorale (NJ) and the Elm City Girls' Choir (New Haven) and is active as a member of the New York City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and past dean of the Guild's Manhattan School of Music Chapter.
