Desert Highway Eagles Tribute Band Performs Benefit Concert ForBrookhaven's Homeless AnimalsSeptember 2010, Long Island , NY . . . On Sunday, October 17, 2010, 7pm, Desert Highway, New York 's premiere Eagles Tribute Band, will perform a concert to benefit the homeless animals at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. Tickets are $20 for adults; and $15 for seniors and children under 12 years old. The concert will be held at Cradle of Aviation,Children's Museum Grounds, Garden City, NY. The doors open at 6pm; the band goes on at 7pm. All proceeds from the event will go towards Help the Animals Fund, Brookhaven's non-profit corporation established to raise the funds necessary to improve shelter conditions and to better meet the needs of the cats and dogs in residence there.Says Dori Scofield, director of the Brookhaven Animal Shelter, "This sluggish economy has caused many families to fall on difficult financial times – some even losing their homes. When that happens, many are forced to surrender the family pet to the shelter. Our goal is to make sure Brookhaven Shelter can both accommodate more cats and dogs, and ease the minds of the families who, through no fault of their own, must give up their beloved companions."Desert Highway's generous participation in this animal welfare fundraiser is a testament to the strength of local support from groups and businesses. "For us, this concert is an opportunity to give back to the Long Island community," says Bob Myers, drummer and vocalist, Desert Highway. "Members of our band are animal lovers, and we find it difficult to imagine having to give away the family cat or dog. Our kids would be devastated."Despite being together only three years, Desert Highway has established themselves as the most one of the most authentic sounding Eagles tribute bands in the country. Their rendition of Eagles' classics has been recognized by those in the industry such as Jack Tempchin (composer of Peaceful, Easy Feeling). The band has received accolades throughout North America and Europe , and has rapidly been elevated from "opening act" to "headliner" overnight. As for Brookhaven Animal Shelter, it has gone through a recent transition naming Dori Scofield the new director. Ms. Scofield is founder of Save-a-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center , one of Long Island 's only No-Kill private animal shelters. Scofield is uniquely qualified for this challenge, and plans to implement many of the same principles of animal care and advocacy she established at Save-a-Pet at Brookhaven's municipal shelter. To purchase tickets, call 631-286-5598.
