Enhance your understanding of Chagall’s paintings with insightful background knowledge during this 1-hour program. Caught up in the cataclysmic events of 1914 though 1945, and part of the art scene of Paris in the 1920’s, Chagall always remained true to his own vision. His art is marked by symbolism, flamboyant use of color, references to the subconscious, and to the Eastern European Jewish experience. Although influenced by the cubism of Picasso and Braque, and distantly related to the surrealism of Andre Breton through the use of dreams, visions and metaphor, his work retains his distinctive signature.
Chagall’s work will be on view at the Nassau County Museum of Art through Sunday, November 4.
