Event on May 13th to Honor and Remember Garden City Marine

Ace in the Hole Foundation & Town of Hempstead 8th Annual Beach Run & Walk on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Lido West Beach, Long Island, NY

Another year…another spring upon us…and another request --please join us at Lido West Beach for our Annual Fun Run & Walk on Saturday morning, May 13th. It is both a fun and rewarding event for the whole family. Enjoy the sun (hopefully), sand & surf and, as well, the comradery of good people who believe in the values of service, loyalty and sacrifice.

Ace in the Hole Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation formed in NYS under Section 504 of the Not for Profit Corporation Law and exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRC. It was founded by our son Greg LiCalzi Jr. who lost his twin brother and our son, 1st Lt. Michael L. LiCalzi USMC, in Iraq on May 11, 2006 while serving with the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. Mike grew up in Garden City, went to Chaminade High School ,and was commissioned as a Marine officer upon graduation from the US Naval Academy in 2004. He trained at Fort Knox at the US Armor Center after completion of his officer training at USMC TBS in Quantico. He was the Honor Graduate of his Armor Center class.

Emphasis is placed on assisting charities, individuals and causes supported by Mike during his life and the likely beneficiaries of his support today. We especially seek to help individual Marines in need and the families of Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen who have been injured or given their lives to keep us free and safe.

We have neither paid staff nor any overhead for offices. Likewise, we do not pay any fundraising consultants or similar entities. If you have been to one of our events you know that it is a family-run affair. As a result, we utilize 100% of all moneys raised (net of our minimal event expenses) to fund worthwhile causes & programs.—to the tune of $600,000 over the last 9 years.

As you may remember, the event is a two-mile fun run & walk on a surfing beach in Mike’s hometown. It is competitive only on a voluntary basis. Refreshments will be provided and a formal program including an introduction by Town of Hempstead officials, a presentation of the colors by Marines of the 2/25 from Garden City, and awards to honorees. The location was selected because it was the beach on which Michael learned to surf (and is now the site of a surfboard stand memorial to Mike).
