Officers responded to a business on Commercial Avenue on April 27 where a delivery truck struck the building soffit causing minor damage. No injuries were reported.
The Garden City Police Department, along with the Adelphi Public Safety Department and the DEA participated in the 2018 National Drug Take Back Day Campaign on April 27. Prescription drop off centers were provided at Garden City Police Headquarters and Adelphi University. Approximately 100 pounds of medications were collected. This initiative assists the public in preventing drug abuse and larceny of medications, as well as enhancing the safety of the environment, by providing a safe and reasonable way to discard potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

On April 28, officers responded to St. Anne’s Church, where an employee observed a suspicious man inside who matched a person depicted in a Garden City Police Department crime bulletin flyer for damaging poor boxes inside the church on March 23 and stealing cash. When they arrived, officers apprehended the subject and determined he was the man in the flyer. It was also determined that the man damaged a poor box in an attempt to remove money when he was arrested. The 60-year-old man from Brooklyn was charged with two counts of criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools, petty larceny and attempted petty larceny.
Officers and the Garden City Water Department responded to a report of a water main leak on Westbury Road on April 28.
An officer stopped a vehicle for excessive speed (58 mph in a 30 mph zone) northbound on Clinton Road, and passing a red light at Stewart Avenue, on April 29. Upon investigation, the driver, a 23-year-old man from Florida, was arrested for DWI, excessive speed, passing a red light and unlicensed operation.
Officers responded to Sears where a 75-year-old man's shoe got stuck in the escalator causing a deep laceration to his foot. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
