Garden City Man Assaulted Family Member: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 26.
- Firefighters responded to a residence for a minor microwave fire on May 19.
- On May 20, Garden City detectives arrested a 32-year-old man from New Hyde Park for stealing vehicles from homes on March 20 and May 2, as well as multiple thefts from vehicles during the past month. He was charged with two counts of grand larceny, five counts of petty larceny, identity theft and criminal possession of a stolen credit card.
- On May 21, a 7th Street business reported that over the past six months, numerous fraudulent checks were written against the company’s checking account for an estimated loss of $22,200.
- A 73-year-old driver was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue with a suspended vehicle registration and an unregistered vehicle on May 21.
- Officers responded to Franklin Avenue for a report of an unconscious man slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle stopped in traffic on May 22. The officers were able to safely remove the driver, a 36-year-old man from Freeport, from the vehicle, and upon investigation, arrested him for DWI.
- An unknown vehicle left the scene after striking and damaging an unoccupied vehicle in Garden City Plaza on May 22.
- Officers and firefighters responded to Ash Street for an odor of gas on May 22. Upon investigation, firefighters deemed the area safe.
- A 32-year-old driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a revoked license and excessive speed on May 23.
- A 53-year-old driver was charged with driving on Franklin Avenue with a revoked license and excessive speed on May 23.
- Officers responded to a Franklin Avenue store where the front window was found shattered by unknown means on May 24.
- A 25-year-old driver was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue at Meadbrook Road with a suspended license and unsafe lane usage on May 24.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a residence for a carbon monoxide alarm activation on May 25. It was determined the alarm was apparently caused by faulty detector.
- Graffiti was discovered on the basement walls of a Franklin Avenue parking garage on May 25.
- A resident was advised by her bank of multiple attempts by someone to cash fraudulent checks against her checking account on May 26.
- As a result of a domestic incident investigation on May 26, officers arrested a 51-year-old man from Garden City for pushing another family member against a wall and throwing a ceramic planter at her while she was attempting to call the police. The subject was charged with attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment.
