Garden City Man Saved From Heroin Overdose: Police

These are all of the incidents that the Garden City Police Department reported for the week ending June 12.

  • Officers responded to the New Hyde Park Railroad Crossing for malfunctioning gates on June 6.
  • A 29-year-old man from Stewart Manor was arrested for the theft of merchandise valued at $90 from Lord and Taylor on June 6.
  • A 46-year-old woman from Garden City was issued a ticket for leaving the scene of an auto accident on June 6, which damaged a village sign.
  • Several reports were received of vehicles being entered overnight in the northeast area of the village on June 7. In one instance, $2 was stolen.
  • Officers were assigned to the Belmont Fair on 7th Street on June 7. It concluded without any incidents reported.
  • A lieutenant attended Boy Scout Troop #243’s Eagle Scout Ceremony and presented Certificates of Achievement and Letters of Congratulations to three Eagle Scouts on behalf of Commissioner Jackson on June 7.
  • A new police recruit was appointed on June 8. They will be attending the Nassau County Police Academy.
  • An unidentified irate customer broke the glass front door of the Mobil Station of Garden City at Franklin Avenue and Main Street on June 8.
  • Officers and NYU Langone ambulance personnel responded to a possible overdose at a Garden City home on June 9. A 23-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive. Narcan was administered, and the patient transported to Winthrop Hospital for treatment. Garden City detectives are investigating.
  • Detectives are investigating a reported burglary of a Brook Street home on June 9. Entry was apparently made through a basement window. Unknown proceeds were stolen.
  • Officers responded to 14th Street on June 9 for a domestic dispute in a vehicle between a 19-year-old man from Uniondale and a 17-year-old woman from South Hempstead. No violations occurred.
  • A Police Officer, while on patrol, observed a water main break on Meadow Street on June 10. The Garden City Water Department was notified and responded.
  • Detectives arrested a 50-year-old man of West Hempstead for second-degree criminal contempt on June 10. Police say he violated an Order of Protection held by his wife, of Garden City.
  • A 77-year-old woman of Garden City was nearly the victim of a popular telephone scam on June 10. The woman received a call stating her daughter was involved in an auto accident and required $8,000 cash bail to be sent to Georgia. The woman withdrew the cash and prepared to send it. However, she realized this was a scam when her daughter called later that day, and she was able to stop the package. Detectives are investigating.
  • A police officer, while on patrol on June 10, observed a suspicious, occupied vehicle parked in the rear of Parking Field 2S. After investigation, a 30-year-old man from Mineola was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
