Garden City Police Will Crackdown On Holiday Weekend DWI
During the Fourth of July weekend, more than 1,400 people were in car crashes from 2017 to 2021, the US Department of Transportation said.
GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department is taking part in the July 4 DWI Crackdown Enforcement Initiative.
Garden City is joining other departments across the county in targeting intoxicated and drugged drivers.
The initiative takes place from July 1 to July 5.

"Police officers will be assigned to monitor the Village’s roadways, strictly enforcing all DWI laws," police commissioner Kenneth Jackson said.
From 2017 to 2021, there were 1,460 drivers killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes over the Fourth of July holiday period — 38% of the drivers killed were drunk, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Garden City Police Department reminds everyone that they can download the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation “Have a Plan” mobile phone app. It enables New Yorkers to locate and call a taxi or ride-share service and program a designated driver list. It also provides information on DWI laws and penalties and how to report a suspected impaired driver.
