WHO IS HOSTING THESE WORKSHOPS?

Lessons for My Daughters was born from the story of Carmin Caterina. Carmin is a woman on the rise in New York. Driven by her own challenging childhood, and experiences in the New York City school system both as a student and educator, Carmin returned back to the schools with a girls empowerment program called Lessons for My Daughters. The program aims to help pre-teen and teen girls increase feelings of self-confidence, self-respect, and to recognize their own talents while working towards a purposeful and positive adulthood.

Why did Carmin create Lessons for My Daughters? Because Carmin is the mother of two daughters and along with her children came a shift in thinking…she realized she held important advice and insight she could offer her two daughters as well as all young girls in the New York City area. Lessons for My Daughters was born.

Carmin is currently hosting workshops at her former high school--Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood NY, as well as workshops at community centers in Howard Beach (Queens), Garden City (Long Island) and The Garment District (Manhattan).

The response and participation in Carmin’s programs is increasing, partly fueled by today’s political climate and partly because the New York and Long Island communities have taken note of Carmin’s passion and hard work. In early March she was notified she would be receiving an award in May at the Queens Impact Gala. The Gala recognizes strong leaders who are making an impact in the community.

Carmin is one real New Yorker, a leader, a mother--the perfect mix of tough, loving and compassionate. She is the story of a woman who was able to rise above her challenging childhood and tough experiences. Carmin draws upon those experiences to help others.

Let’s watch her rise, and bring the girls of New York City with her!
