In celebration of the third and fourth grade studies of extreme weather, students at Stratford School in Garden City were treated to a presentation from News 12 meteorologist Geoff Bansen. Third graders have participated in various weather-related activities as part of their science curriculum, while fourth graders researched weather events in their Reader’s Workshop Unit “Reading the Weather, Reading the World.”

The children were captivated by Bansen’s presentation. Students learned how hail forms, occurring mostly in the summer, while sleet happens in the winter. They also learned tips on how to stay safe during different extreme weather events.

Bansen was very impressed with the level of interest and knowledge shown by the students. Before giving his weather forecast that evening, he gave a shout out to the students of Stratford and added, “These students really knew their stuff. They really surprised me!”
