WESTBURY, NY — Three people — including a 16-year-old girl and a man armed with a machete — face charges after they kidnapped and robbed a person at a local motel, according to Nassau County police.

Officers were investigating Saturday at the Edgewood Motel, 38 Jericho Turnpike in Jericho, and saw a 2005 red Ford F-150 leave the parking lot and head west on Jericho Turnpike, according to police, who pulled the truck over after it failed to stop near Cambridge Avenue and Warren Street in Westbury.

Police removed four people from the vehicle and one of them — 19-year-old Tylor Salmeron of New Cassel — tried to run away, pulling a large machete from his shorts and throwing it to the ground, authorities said, adding Salmeron was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. despite violently resisting. The driver, 23-year-old Yonathan Hernandez of Hempstead, was also arrested, as was the teen girl, according to police.

The fourth person in the truck was determined to be a 48-year-old man the trio had lured to the motel, where they held him against his will and stole his keys, phone and money at knifepoint, police said.

Salmeron, Hernandez and the girl were all charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree conspiracy and fourth-degree possession of a weapon, according to police. Salmeron was also charged with second-degree menacing and resisting arrest, while Hernandez faced additional charges of second-degree menacing and a traffic infraction, police said. All three were due in court for an arraignment Sunday, according to police.
