Man Attacked Officers In Attempt To Flee: Police

A routine traffic stop in East Garden City turned into a struggle after the man tried to flee with counterfeit bills, police say.

A Brooklyn man attacked police officers Tuesday night as he attempted to flee from his arrest in East Garden City, Nassau County police say.

According to police, two officers were conducting a vehicle and traffic law investigation of a red Infiniti at 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of 821 Stewart Ave. As the officers approached, police say the sole occupant of the car, Triston Campbell, 27, of Snyder Avenue, opened the driver-side door, hitting one of the officers.

Police say Campbell fled on foot and was caught a short distance away. Campbell then punched and kicked both officers, police say, but was placed under arrest. Police say Campbell was in possession of 14 counterfeit $50 bills and six counterfeit $20 bills.
