Man Bit Officers, Threatened Them With Knife: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Nov. 6.

  • As a result of an alert from a police vehicle’s license plate reader on Oct. 30, a 29-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended/revoked registration on 11th Street at Arthur Street.
  • Officers responded to a Garden City home on Oct. 31 for a report of a disorderly man acting irrationally. Upon arrival, the man threatened the officers with a knife. As the officers attempted to arrest the man, he bit one officer in the arm and broke the skin, then bit another officer in the arm causing cuts and bruising, and shoved another officer into a wall and injured their arm. The subject, a 19-year-old man from Garden City, was charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer, menacing, possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
  • A 42-year-old man from Baldwin was arrested on Oct. 31 for choking his ex-girlfriend and damaging property at her Garden City home. He was charged with criminal obstruction of an airway, criminal mischief and harassment.
  • Officers arrested a 62-year-old man from Brooklyn on Oct. 31 for using a forged credit card and a forged driver’s license to purchase merchandise valued at $1,030 from Lord & Taylor. The man was also found to be in possession of additional forged driver licenses in other peoples’ names. He was charged with grand larceny, three counts of possession of a forged instrument, identity theft and forgery.
  • While patrolling Meadow Street on Oct. 31, officers discovered discarded Amazon boxes in shrubbery in the vicinity of Clinton Road. Upon investigation, the boxes were delivered to local homes earlier in the day.
  • As a result of strong winds on Nov. 1, officers responded to multiple storm-related calls, including power outages, property damage reports, alarms, fallen tree limbs, fallen power lines and a railroad gate malfunction.
  • Upon investigation of a vehicle passing a red traffic light southbound on Clinton Road at St. James Street South on Nov. 1, officers arrested the driver, a 27-year-old man from Plainview, for DWI and disregarding a red traffic light signal.
  • As a result of a safe pedestrian detail on 7th Street on Nov. 1, two drivers were cited for illegal U-turns and another driver was cited for passing a stopped school bus.
  • 1The police department investigated an incident at a Franklin Avenue business on Nov. 2 where an employee received an email that appeared to be from her supervisor directing her to purchase gift cards totaling $1,600 and send the pin numbers to a client. Upon investigation, the incident was determined to be a scam.
  • Two packages delivered to the front porch of a New Hyde Park Road residence were reported stolen on Nov. 2.
  • As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Commercial Avenue on Nov. 2, a 26-year-old man was charged with driving while operating a portable electronic device and two driver license suspensions.
  • A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the Community Park parking field on Nov. 3.
  • Upon investigation of a vehicle with an obstructed rear license plate on Locust Street on Nov. 3, officers arrested a 35-year-old man from Garden City for DWI.
  • A package delivered to the front steps of a Clinton Road residence was reported stolen on Nov. 4.
  • A wallet was reported stolen from a car parked in the BOCES Center Parking Field on Clinton Road on Nov. 4.
  • As a result of a domestic incident investigation on Nov. 5, a 20-year-old woman from Garden City was arrested for the theft of another family member’s property. She was charged with grand larceny.
  • On Nov. 5, a 24-year-old woman was charged with driving on Clinton Road with six license suspensions/revocations, a child under four years of age not secured in a child seat and unregistered vehicle.
  • A 43-year-old man was charged with driving a commercial vehicle on Washington Street with three driver’s license suspensions and an unsafe trailer on Nov. 5.
  • Officers monitored numerous election districts within the village on Nov. 5, with no unusual events reported.
  • Firefighters and officers responded to a report of electrical wires down on Somerset Avenue on Nov. 5. Upon investigation, it was determined the wires were cable lines
