Man Charged With Multiple Crimes After Failed Robbery: Police

Police say he committed multiple burglaries and robberies, all within the last month.

A Hempstead man was arrested on Monday morning and charged with multiple robberies after police say they arrested him robbing a Hempstead store.

According to police, Travane Ramos, 28, of Terrace Avenue, entered GNC, located at 158 Fulton Ave., at 11:50 a.m.. He approached the clerk, police say, lifted his shirt and put his hand inside his waistband to make it look like he had a gun. Police say he demanded the clerk open the register. Instead, the clerk fled into a back room, police say, and saw Ramos trying to break into the register while she called 911.

Hempstead police responded and chased Ramos on foot, catching him quickly, police say. During the processing for his arrest, police say it was determined that Ramos was responsible for an additional attempted robbery, five burglaries and an incident of criminal mischief, all of which happened in Hempstead in April.
