Man Used Forged Papers To Steal Car From Dealership: Police

Police say the man got a car worth nearly $20,000 and never made a payment on it.

Nassau police arrested a Queens man on Friday after police say he forged paperwork last year to purchase a car without paying.

According to police, Clifford Person, 30, of 88th Avenue, bought a 2014 Toyota Rav 4 from Millennium Toyota, located at 257 North Franklin Ave. in Hempstead, on July 29, 2017. Police say Person used a photo ID and a social security card to get financing for the car. He received pre-approval and took the car. Police say it was later determined the social security card was a fraud. Person never returned the vehicle, which was valued at $19,895, and never made a payment, according to police.

Person was arrested early Friday without incident. He is charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree possession of a forged instrument. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
