
DAY 1 RESULTS
New Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Northeast-10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at Hutchison Natatorium on Thursday. The men's team stands in sixth place and the women's squad holds the seventh spot heading into Friday's preliminaries.
Sophomore Michael Mayer led the Panthers and swam to a second place finish in the men's 200 IM with a time of 1:54.11, a personal best and just .43 seconds off the Adelphi program record.
Other highlights for the Panthers included a second place effort by freshman Jalen Jennings, who scored a 433.60 in the men's 3 meter dive, and a fifth place tally for freshman Zachary Mazur in the men's 50 free with a 21.80 mark.
In relay action, Adelphi turned in a trio of sixth place finishes. Samantha Spacone, Ana Galesic, Rachel Garry and Heather Miller swam a combined 1:44.66 in the women's 200 freestyle relay, while Gabrielle Terzano and Brittany Stanford joined Galesic and Miller to post a time of 4:12.21 in the 400 medley. On the men's side, the Panthers took sixthi n the 400 medley in a time of 3:45.17 thanks to the efforts of Carlos Ballon, Mayer, Chad Ankers and Mazur.
In the men's standings, So. Connecticut has a 264-188 lead over Bentley University, while the So. Connecticut women own a 298-263 lead over Bentley.
The Northeast-10 Championships continue on Friday morning, with preliminaries scheduled for 10 a.m. The the men's 1-meter diving competition will take place in the afternoon followed by swimming finals at 6 p.m.
